The Unfinished Museum Tour-Partners in crime

The museum visits are part of my project “The Unfinished Museum Tour”. This is the first incarnation of this project and it revolves around four museums in NYC: the Met, the MoMA, the Whitney and PS1. A strange development: instead of the masses I was expecting to come running to my guided non- tours to the city’s museums, I was joined by friends- artists and art-oriented people. Oh well, you have to make do, right? you will find links to these people’s websites here. They are now part of my project. I will soon post the artwork which originated from these tours. Thanks for looking.

My first Museum visit was to the Whitney. I had the honor of having Takashi Horisaki’s company.
we talked about multi cultural relationships (which language do you fight in?) and how cool Lawrence Wiener is. Takashi told me about his days in New Orleans. They do not allow photographing in the Whitney.

My second Museum visit was to MoMA with Devrim Kadirbeyoglu. Here are some pictures form the horrors of Target’s Free Friday:

“Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses”

Finally- a Jenny Holzer I like:

There was this amazing John Baldessari video titled “I am making art”. I can’t say anything else about it, because I plan to abuse its genius for my own artistic goals. (MUahahahaha).

OK, moving on!

My third Museum visit was to PS1. Luckily, I had Leif Magne Tangen with me. and I say luckily, because he got us a press pass! here is the press pass: I am very proud of my press pass:

The Unfinished Museum Tour- MoMA

The second Museum visit will take place tomorrow, Friday, December 21st.
The destination for the first visit will be the MoMA, located on 11 West 53 Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
I will arrive at the museum at 4pm and will wait in the entrance area until 4.30, before entering the museum.
For recognition purposes, I will be wearing a red t-shirt with a tomato cartoon on it.

You are hereby invited to join me on my visit to the museum.
This is not a conventional museum tour, and it is not authorized by the MoMA or any other authority.
I would simply be enjoying your company and you would have the opportunity to
spend some time with me and see me make a drawing, and probably talk a lot about how weird the new MoMA is and how it seems to instill a slight fear in everyone.

Beneath is my email and mobile number, in case you have any further questions.

Thank you,
Gabriela

The Unfinished Museum Tour

panic-attack.jpg

This project encompasses four ongoing projects that will be completed in the duration of the show NYNYNY at Flux Factory gallery, LIC. (December 14th 2007- January 13th 200 8)

The starting point of this tour is four videos on display at NYNYNY. http://www.fluxfactory.org/nynyny/

Each video is a still frame- the entrance to a major NYC museum- the MoMA, the Whitney, The Met and PS1.

On the opening date, December 14th a numbered and limited series of 25 photocopied drawings will be presented next to each video piece. These will be signed and numbered by me and offered to the public for free.

A schedule is posted below, announcing the dates and times of my visits to each of the four museums for the next four weeks. Each museum will be visited twice. During or immediately following the visit, a drawing will be made in reference to the visit.

The audience of NYNYNY is welcome to join me on my visits to the museums. These will be short or long, interesting or boring. I will produce a drawing on each occasion, and will welcome the company of anyone interested in the creative process.

I will arrive at the museums within the timeframe indicated below.

It is necessary that visitors contact me via email before joining me for the visit, so that we don’t miss each other.

Images of the drawings will be posted on my website and on Flux Factory’s website. Anyone wishing to receive a signed copy of a drawing may contact me. I will make up to 25 signed and numbered copies for each drawing.
